SAITM Vice Chancellor and former Colombo Chief JMO Ananda Samarasekara filed a Fundamental Rights petition today requesting an order against his imminent arrest by the CID regarding the investigation into the murder of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
Samarasekara, in his application, says that the CID was moving to arrest him based on the statements made by the current JMO that he has not conducted the original post mortem correctly.
The original post mortem had suggested that the death of Thajudeen was caused by an accident. However, the later post mortem said that the death was likely to be a murder.
Investigation into Thajudeen's death was relaunched after the Presidential Election of 2015. Two police officers including Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake are in custody over alleged suppression of information regarding the murder.
