Obtaining SLS 517 certification is essential for helmets, said the Consumer Affairs Authority.
This directive applies to helmets worn by motor cycle riders in their day to day activities as well as for helmets worn by competitors of Motor cycle races.
According to research there is an increase in motor cycle related accidents which are fatal. Not wearing a helmet of quality has resulted in the driver and the pillion rider facing fatal injuries states the CAA.
A person who produces, imports, distributes or sells wholesale or retail should not do so unless the SLS517 logo is there.
This directive will become effective on September 1,2016 and after that CAA officers will conduct regular checks and legal action will be taken against any producer, distributor or wholesale or retail trader who breaks the rule.
The gazette notification which states that SLS 517 is essential for helmets has been issued.
