Mount Lavinia Court Restrains Office Bearers Of GMOA From Functioning

Mount Lavinia District Court today restrained all elected members of the Government Medical Officers Association from functioning as office bearers.

The District Court also issued summons to 'election committee' of the GMOA and its President on contempt of court. The order was made after a case filed against the Government Medical Officer's Association was taken up for hearing today.

Mount Lavinia court, on Friday, issued an interim order preventing the GMOA  from holding its Annual General Meeting. However, Court of Appeal granted permission to hold the Annual General Meeting last Saturday without the vote on the position of Vice President.

At the Annual General Meeting, Dr. Anurudda Padeniya was re-elected as the President of the GMOA. A new board of officials were also appointed at the AGM to function for a period of one year.

However, when contacted by Asian Mirror, Naveen de Soysa, spokesman of the GMOA said they were not aware of any order given by the Mount Lavinia District Court.
