UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, expressed that the UNESCO is happy to support restoration and preservation of the important cultural heritage sites of Sri Lanka, when she called on President Sirisena at his official residence in Colombo yesterday (17).
She further stated that the UN is highly pleased about the total commitment displayed by the government of President Sirisena for resolving pressing issues.
The President thanked UNESCO for the assistance provided to Sri Lanka for culture, education and science for a long period of time.
Bokova visited Sri Lanka on an invitation extended by President Maithripala Sirisena. She visited several cultural sites, met with local scientists and also witnessed the Kandy Perahara during her stay in the island. This was her first visit official to Sri Lanka.
