President Maithripala Sirisena extended the service of Army Commander Lieutenant General Crishantha De Silva for one year with effect from August 22, the Military spokesman said yesterday.

The former Chief of Staff of the Army, he was appointed as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in February 2015.

He has also served as a Commander in Chief in the volunteer force and has completed 36 years of service in the army.
