Four people arrested for allegedly throwing stones at a Mount Lavinia bound train at Kollupitiya yesterday were remanded till August 25 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.
They had been arrested by railway security officers who handed them over to the Kollupitiya Police.
Their lawyers said that they were not responsible for the incident and that they were fishermen.
However, the Magistrate said that the charge is serious and there could be a public disturbance if they are given bail, especially in view of a similar incident recently where a state official died after being hit by a stone. Therefore they were ordered to be remanded.
