SAITM Vice Chancellor and former Colombo Chief JMO Dr. Ananda Samarasekara sent a letter of demand to former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake seeking damages for allegedly tarnishing his reputation and good name through a statement given to the media.
According to the letter of demand sent through his attorney, Samarasekara says that Senanayake made these damaging remarks in a newspaper interview published in May this year.
In this interview, Senanayake refered to the death of former Havelock's Captain Wasim Thajudeen and stated that the police investigations were conducted based on the JMO report. The CID should investigate the role of the JMO in the case before investigating him, Senanayake said in the interview, according to Samarasekara.
Dr. Samarasekara was the Colombo Chief JMO at the time of Thajudeen's death. The first JMO report suggested that his death occurred due to an accident. Investigations launched after the change of the government revealed that Thajudeen was murdered.
Senanayake and former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Perera are in custody for allegedly withholding information pertaining to the investigation.
