Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation has been facing severe criticism over the past few days for unsatisfactory coverage of Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro.
The anger of concerned sports fans reached a fever pitch last night when Channel Eye failed to give live coverage of Niluka Karunaratne's first badminton match of the Olympics as promised.
The SLRC and Channel Eye websites advertised that the live telecast of the match will be aired through Channel Eye. This advert still appeared on the websites on Friday morning.
However, Channel Eye, which advertises itself as the "Leader in Sports" did not telecast the game live and telecasted other programs including a Tamil drama instead.
A very poorly done recorded telecast was carried out after the game had ended in Rio.
Meanwhile, the ad-hoc manner in which the live telecast has been conducted has been criticised by sports fans on social media.
