Narahenpita Police today arrested five people including the first female expressway bus driver in Sri Lanka Lakshi Sajintha and a Buddhist monk for allegedly entering the National Transport Commission and threatening its Chairman.
The five individuals were produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris.
They claimed that they had visited the NTC to discuss a dispute regarding Sajintha's bus route permit.
Accordingly, Sajintha was driving with a temporary permit and the NTC Chairman has promised to issue her a permanent permit after she purchases a bus of her own.
However, months after her purchasing a bus the NTC Chairman did not issue a permit as promised, the court was told.
The Additional Magistrate released the five suspects on a cash bail of Rs 2000 and a surety bail of Rs 100,000. No cash bail was imposed on the monk.
The issue was referred to the Mediation Board.
