Veteran journalist Elmo Fernando passed away at his residence in the early hours of this morning at the age of 75.
Fernando joined the Radio Ceylon, which was later renamed as the Ceylon Broadcasting Corporation and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, in 1967. He was a popular announcer and a news caster and was also a news reporter and producer.
After leaving the SLBC in 1984, he joined the catholic radio service Veritas in the Philippines. A decade later he joined the BBC Sinhala Service, Sandeshaya, and served as the Colombo correspondent for a long time.
