The Supreme Court has determined that the VAT (Amendment) Bill presented to the parliament contravenes the constitution, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed Parliament today.

Two Special Determination petitions were filed against the VAT legislation by UPFA MP Sisira Jayakody and another lawyer.

The Supreme Court concluded hearing arguments of the petitioners and the AG by July 21.
