Today is the fourth day of Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Medal winning swimmer Mathew Abeysinghe is to compete for Swimming Men's 100m freestyle which is scheduled for today (09) at 9:32 p.m. Sri Lanka time.
Mathew Abeysinghe is the first Sri Lankan swimmer to earn a FINA World Championships qualifying standard and currently holds many of the national level swimming records including Men's 100m freestyle (50.53s).
The 20 year older created history in Sri Lanka swimming by becoming the first ever swimmer to qualify for the Olympics achieving qualifying requirements. Sri Lankan swimmers who have competed at Olympics before Abeysinghe have all qualified through wild cards.
