Former TNA MP Podiappuhamy Piyasena was further remanded till August 12 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne for alleged misuse of a vehicle given him by the Prime Minister's Office.

His driver was released on a cash bail of Rs 10,000 and a surety of Rs 300,000.

Piyasena is charged under the Public Properties Act.

The MP had requested for a vehicle in February 2015 and has allegedly failed to return it after the August 2015 general election. He was defeated in that election.

The driver brought the vehicle to the Kollupitiya Police on July 28. Piyasena was arrested by the CCD the next day.
