A meeting of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will be held today at the official residence of President Maithripala Sirisena.
This meeting is expected to discuss the recently concluded 'Joint Opposition' Paada Yathra led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
A number of SLFP MPs took part in the protest march despite it being not sanctioned by the party.
SLFP had earlier warned disciplinary action against the SLFP MPs backing the 'Joint Opposition' and criticizing party leadership. However the party is yet to take serious action against them. Embattled President Maithripala Sirisena is facing the serious task of maintaining party unity in the backdrop of demands for action on one side and calls for leaving the party by the pro-Rajapaksa camp.
Meanwhile former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to leave for South Korea for a six day trip today.
