President Maithripala Sirisena and SLFP MPs of the 'Joint Opposition' have not discussed the contentious 'Jana Satana Pada Yathra' protest march when they met yesterday at the President's official residence in Colombo.
The discussion was focused on several factors including the UNP-SLFP agreement and the economy.
President Sirisena did not oppose the stance taken by the SLFP MPs who decided to oppose the government, MP Gamini Lokuge told media. However, he asked the MPs not to divide the party through their politics, Lokuge added.
The Joint Opposition MPs also opposed Sirisena's move to extend the UNP-SLFP agreement to five years.
Some SLFP seniors have urged drastic action against the SLFP members who take part in the Jana Satana Pada Yathra protest march which will be launched in Kandy on July 28. It is to arrive in Colombo on August 1.
