Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader and UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the 'Joint Opposition' was open to discuss the possibility of a trade agreement with India which will be introduced as an alternative to the proposed Economic and Technology Comprehensive Agreement, or ETCA.

If the government wishes to sign the ETCA, the Joint Opposition will voice its disagreement in parliament, he said.

Gunawardena also pointed out that various sectors have expressed their opposition to the proposed agreement and called on the government to introduce a new agreement.
