The Supreme Court yesterday concluded hearing the arguments on two Special Determination petitions on the VAT legislation.
The petitions included one submitted by UPFA MP Sisira Jayakody.
A three member bench headed by the Chief Justice heard the arguments. The petitioners said that the legislation has not been approved by the Cabinet before being tabled at the Parliament. Therefore the correct procedure has not been followed, it was argued.
However, the Attorney General argued that the due process has been carried out since the legislation originated from the Cabinet in the first place.
The court ordered both parties to file written submissions by Monday.
