Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has been appointed as Co-chairman of the Hambantota District Development Committee, replacing MP Chamal Rajapaksa.

Rajapaksa had attended the two previous meetings of the committee in this capacity.

However, the Presidential Secretariat has notified the District Secretary that he was replaced with Amaraweera.

Chamal Rajapaksa supports the 'Joint Opposition' and has attended several of its rallies and protests.
