Troops involved in the military coup against the government of President Racep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey have surrendered at the Bosphorus bridge with their hands raised, as the military coup was reportedly faltering.
Civilian protesters took to the bridge and started celebrating after the soldiers left their positions.
The coup was launched last night local time while Erdogan was on holiday. He returned to Istanbul as the government started to take control of the situation.
Meanwhile, rebel aircraft dropped bombs near the Presidential Palace in Ankara a short while ago.
