Eight individuals including former DIG Vass Gunawardena, his wife Shyamali Perera, his son Ravindu Gunawardena and five police personnel were summoned by Colombo High Court on September 5 over the alleged abduction and assault of a student of the SLTTT, Malabe, in 2009.

The student, Nipuna Ramanayake, was allegedly abducted and assaulted on a date between August 8 and 21 in 2009.

Vass Gunawardena and his son, along with five policemen, have already been given the death sentence for the murder of a businessman.
