A police FCID team visited the residence of National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa's brother Sarath Weerawansa this morning, reportedly to arrest him over an alleged misuse of a government vehicle.
Wimal Weerawansa told media today that his brother had been summoned to the FCID yesterday. However, since he was suffering from ill health and has been bedridden, he could not appear at the FCID, Weerawansa added.
He also said that his brother informed of the matter and requested an alternative date.
Irrespective of this fact the police surrounded his brother's residence this morning to take him to the FCID, Wimal Weerawansa said. However, the police left the house after it was clear his brother was not in a position to leave the house, Weerawansa added.
Police sources claimed that Sarath Weerawansa is likely to be arrested soon.
