The Joint Opposition today announced its 'Shadow Cabinet', introducing a practice seen in several Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth countries including the United Kingdom.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was named the Shadow Prime Minister while his son Namal is appointed the Shadow Foreign Minister.
Senior 'Joint Opposition' figures such as Dinesh Gunawardena, Bandula Gunawardena and Udaya Gammanpila have been given key posts in the Shadow Cabinet.
Accordingly, Bandula Gunawardena is the Shadow Finance Minister while Dinesh Gunawardena is the Shadow National Policy and Economic Affairs Minister. Gammanpila is the Shadow Law and Order Minister.
