The gatekeepers of unprotected 'bamboo pole' railway crossings across the country launched a strike this morning demanding a wage hike that was promised to them.

Keepers of Unprotected Railway Crossings Association said the decision was taken as the authorities have failed to grant a proposed Rs.5000 wage hike.

Over 2000 workers are engaged in the hike.

The Railways Department warned motorists and the public to be vigilant as the gatekeepers at the unprotected crossings were on strike.
