Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe said that he is subjected to no political interference and that he is carrying out his duty independently.
He made this observation during an awareness campaign for state officials in Kandy on the 19th Amendment and the proposed National Audit Bill.
Wijesinghe also maintained that the new bill will help further the independence of the Auditor General's Department.
His comments came just days after he handed over a report on the controversial bond issues at the Central Bank, in which he faulted the Central Bank Governor for lack of professional judgement. He also blamed the Central Bank administration for being unable to prevent avoidable losses during the bond issues.
