The former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has left for Singapore earlier this afternoon, days before he was to appear in front of the COPE over the investigations regarding the controversial treasury bond issue.
The day of his return to Sri Lanka is not known at the moment. He was to appear before the COPE on July 7.
Mahendran is accused of insider dealing regarding the bond issues at Central Bank. The Auditor General, in his report over the matter, said that Mahendran has shown lack of professional judgement during the bond issues and the Central Bank administration has not been able to prevent avoidable losses.
Mahendran's term ended yesterday and he was not allowed a service extension.
Arjuna Mahendran is a Singaporean citizen.
