The Bar Association of Sri Lanka called on President Maithripala Sirisena to make a non-political appointment to the post of Governor of Central Bank.
BASL Chairman President's Counsel Geoffrey Alagaratnam said that the failure to appoint a Governor reflects badly on the government and highlights uncertainty. It also affects negatively to the administration of the country, he added.
Former Governor Arjuna Mahendran's term ended yesterday but the government is yet to appoint a new Governor. It was said that the government was buying time until the Finance Minister returns to the country from a foreign visit.
