Cabinet approval was granted for a Light Rail Transport system for Colombo and the suburbs, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said yesterday.
Accordingly, Cabinet gave approval to carry out a feasibility study on the light rail transit system.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will assist in the introduction of the LRT system.
Thereby a route connecting Colombo Fort, Kollupitiya, Bamblapitiya, Union Place, Maradana and a route connecting Malabe to Borella is considered.
The project was submitted for Cabinet approval by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka.
