Sri Lankan government's action has given a free ticket for Britain to interfere in Sri Lankan elections in future, Communist Party stalwart DEW Gunasekara said.
Speaking at a press conference today, Gunawardena said that it was wrong to send Sri Lankan government ministers to the UK to instruct the Sri Lankan community to how to vote in the recently concluded referendum on whether to stay in the EU.
52 percent of the voters said UK should leave the EU. The Sri Lankan government campaigned among the Sri Lankan community to keep the UK within EU, since the government feared the negative impact arising from UK's decision to leave.
However, Sri Lanka will have no excuse if the UK government starts instructing Sri Lankans on how to vote in the elections here, Gunasekara said.
