Southern Provincial Minister DV Upul was released on bail by the Hambantota Magistrate's Court on charges of assaulting an individual from Hambantota on June 15.

He was arrested earlier in the day after he surrendered to police.

Upul was released on two sureties of Rs 500,00 each.

Three people had already been arrested for the alleged assault on the individual named T.M. Premadasa, police said.
