Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that the people are ready for a new movement in the grass root level.

Answering questions posed by the media last evening after an event in Colombo, he said that there was no need for especial preparation for such a movement as the people were ready for it.

He added that a movement which represents the people's aspirations in the grass-root level was needed.

When asked about the possibility of him being appointed as the national organizer of such a movement, Rajapaksa said that there was no need for positions in the new movement.

Several former local councilors of the SLFP recently said that a new political party was being formed with Basil Rajapaksa as the national organizer.
