BBC and Sky News forecast the UK will vote to leave the EU.
The final turnout was 72.1 percent and was affected by the floods and rain across the British islands.
At the moment leave is ahead of nearly 800,000 votes, with the English shires and Wales voting strongly for Brexit.
The UKIP leader in Wales said that the Leave campaign has done far better than expected in that region. The industrial centres of Northern England have also opted for Brexit by a larger margin than expected.
The city of Birmingham also opted for a leave.
Scotland and Northern Ireland appear to have opted for Remain and London has voted emphatically to stay in the EU.
The pound has fallen to a 31 year low.
