Cracks Appear In Government Over Likely Joining Of Thondaman

The Tamil Progressive Alliance composed of three political parties, is likely to oppose any move to appoint Arumugam Thondaman as a minister of the government in the event of his joining.

Leader of the National Workers' Congress, Minister Palani Digambaran, said in a TV interview today that he will oppose any move to appoint Thondaman as a Minister, along with the alliance.

He added that he did not oppose any decision by Thondaman to join and support the government.

The NWC is a constituent party of the TPA, the other partners being the Upcountry People's Front of V. Radhakrishnan and Democratic People's Front of Mano Ganesan.

Both Digambaran and Radhakrishnan are rivals of Thondaman in the Nuwara Eliya District. They supported President Maithripala Sirisena during the January 2015 General Election, while Thondaman supported former Preside t Mahinda Rajapaksa.
