Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris today allowed Former Crimes OIC of Narahenpita Police Sumith Perera to make a confession regarding the investigation into the death of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
The Magistrate gave this direction after Perera made a request once again, when the case on Thajudeen murder was taken up by the court.
Accordingly, he would be brought to the Magistrate to make the statement before him tomorrow. He is suspected of withholding information regarding investigation into the murder of Wasim Thajudeen.
Meanwhile, the lawyers representing former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake said that the statement's purpose will be to implicate him in the case.
He will not make such a statement to the Magistrate, he also insisted.
The CID informed court that Anura Senanayake had instructed his driver as to how he should give a statement to the CID, when statements were being recorded on the murder.
The Magistrate refused bail on the grounds that the suspects could influence witnesses and remanded them till June 23.
