Deputy Minister Manusha Nanayakkara stated yesterday that he was opposed to granting a service extention for Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who was said to be involved in the alleged bond scam at the bank.
Nanayakkara said that he will never keep silent on financial frauds. He also revealed that the SLFP stalwarts in the government had discussed the matter of the Central Bank Governor with the President and the Prime Minister.
The discussions have been inconclusive for the time being, he also added.
Speaking about the economic situation in the country, Nanayakkara acknowledged that there were difficulties. However, opposing the Finance Minister at this juncture will not help the government, Nanayakkara also said.
However, the no-faith motion against the Finance Minister should be used as a turning point in creating a discourse about the economic situation, he said.
