Intermittent explosions could still be heard at the Salawa Army Camp in Kosgama, Avissawella, following a large fire which occurred this afternoon.

The fire started in the warehouse of the camp at around 6 p.m.

People living in a radius of 6km from the Salawa camp were advised to leave their home. Armed patrols have been deployed to the area.

The army said that the area is still not secure. The police will let the evacuees when to return to their homes, the army said.
