The Government Medical Officers' Association launched a four hour general strike from 8 a.m. to 12 noon over alleged irregularities in post-internship appointments.

The strike is taking place in all districts except Colombo, Gampaha and Kegalle, which were severely hit by natural disasters recently.

The GMOA also called upon for the replacement of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne by a suitable person or the takeover of the Ministry by the President.

GMOA alleges that the post intern vacancy list prepared by the Health Ministry has been altered due to political interference and claims that this is the first step towards political interference in the doctor’s transfer and appointment process.
