People buy vehicles without considering the necessity and the tax increase was done to prevent unnecessary people from buying cars, Minister John Amaratunga said, in an attempt to justify the increase of tax for some vehicles.
Speaking to the media, Amaratunge said that people should consider their job before anything else in buying vehicles.
"Necessities differ from one person to the other" he said.
Meanwhile, he added that the number of vehicles and three-wheelers on the roads is too much.
He also claimed that certain three-wheeler associations had requested the government to curb the import of three-wheelers.
