Global cab service Uber's Sri Lankan operation has come under fire for not maintaining basic service standards and professional ethics, Asian Mirror learns.
"I ordered an Uber can on a Saturday night, a week ago. My drop-off destination was 19 km away from Colombo, well-within Uber's service map," said a customer, who shared his views on the matter.
"The driver came to the location and when i was about to get in, he refused to travel, saying it was a loss to him, because he would not find another hire from my drop-off destination," he added.
"This unexpected response left me in surprise and caused me great inconvenience. A response of that nature was highly unprofessional. I did not expect such appalling standards from a cab service like Uber. Quite interestingly, Uber charged me Rs. 100 as a call-up fee!," the customer said.
The customer said although he complained to the Uber customer support, he was kept in the dark about any follow-up action against the errant driver who clearly violated the most basic service standards.
Another Uber customer said his trip was cancelled by the driver, on Friday night (27), as the latter could not wait for 07 minutes outside a restaurant in Colombo 03, where there was ample parking space.
"It was raining and I had to wait for about 7 minutes inside the restaurant. As I came out, I got the indication that the Uber driver had cancelled the trip. I tried calling him, but he kept ignoring my calls. He did not have the courtesy to inform that that he was cancelling the trip. It was highly disappointing and unethical," the customer said.
He said he did not want to seek the support of the company's customer support as he had already lost faith in their 'customer-feedback systems'.
Uber, a global ride sharing company with an on-demand technology platform and app that connects commuters who need a ride and licensed drivers, announced the official launch of its service in Colombo, in December, last year.
