Madina Central College, Madawala, School Development Society has made a controversial request from education authorities in Central Province to appoint Muslim teachers from Madawala area to the school and transfer Muslim teachers of other regions and non-Muslim teachers from the school.
In a letter addressed to the Assistant Education Director of the Muslim Unit in Central Province Education Office, the SDS says that teachers arriving from far away and non-Muslim teachers have created cultural issues in the school.
The SDS views the increase of non-Muslim teachers in the staff and the increase of teachers from other areas as an added burden.
The status of the school has rapidly decreased due to the cultural and other issues arising from this, the SDS says.
Teachers from far away areas arrive late to school, decreasing the quality of the education offered to the students, the SDS argues.
Meanwhile, the SDS laments at the 'westernization' of the school and especially the opportunity given to female students to take part in sports activities.
Furthermore, it was reported that rotten eggs were thrown at non-Muslim teachers at an event recently at school. A video, allegedly showing the incident, was uploaded on social media recently.
