State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene said that it was not acceptable that Chief Minister Z.A. Nazeer Ahmed scolded the Commanding Officer of the Vidura Navy Camp in public, over a dispute at a recent event.
Wijewardene stated this in a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence today.
The Minister stated that the Navy had taken commendable efforts for the reconstruction of Eastern Province which was destroyed by the civil war, and it was questionable that the Provincial Minister was aware of this effort. The Navy personnel including the reprimanded officer, participated the event to make donations to improve laboratory facilities of Sampur Central College, he noted.
If an issue was occurred during the event, as a responsible politician the Provincial Minister could have resolved it later on wisely, Wijewardene said.
The Minister further added that no person would be allowed to cause any embarrassment to war heroes who sacrificed their lives to end war.
The Provincial Minister will be expected to behave as a responsible public representative in future, he added.
