Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the Commissioner General of Examinations to take immediate steps to issue examination certificates which were destroyed due to disasters caused by prevailing weather conditions.
Therefore, the steps have been taken to coordinate one-day service of the Department of Examinations, Grama Niladhari officers, and zonal education directors to formulate a system to hand the certificates to candidates personally, the department said.
Another mechanism has been introduced where sufficient information necessary to establish one’s identity will be obtained to a special ‘information-search’ application, in cases where candidates do not possesses birth certificate, national identity card, exam index number, and result sheets to apply for replacement of exam certificates.
The Ministry of Education stated that measures are being taken already to refer the relevant application templates to Grama Niladhari officers through zonal directors.
Therefore, the disaster victims could apply for replacement of educational certificates through their respective Grama Niladhari Officers, the Ministry also stated.
