Rains are expected in many parts of the island, especially in the south, west and south west areas, as the South Western monsoons move towards the island.
The Met Department said today that rains up to 75-100 mm can be expected in parts of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North Western and Central Provinces.
Meanwhile, scattered showers or showers with thunder can occur in Uva Province and the districts of Ampara and Batticaloa, the department further said.
Furthermore, the Met Department warned of sudden rises in the wind speeds in the seas around the island.
The wind from south west can reach up to 40-50km, the Met Department also stated.
