The public should take necessary precautions regarding the electricity system in their homes after the floods have subside, experts warn..
The CEB and LECO took a precautionary method to disconnect electricity in flood-hit areas. However, even after the electricity supply is reconnected it is dangerous to switch on the system without taking prior safety measures.
The main switch or any other electrical device must not be touched. There is a high likelihood that light switches and plug points are blocked with mud and water, which would cause an electrical short.
The best safety measure is to get the whole system checked by an electrician, including every single switch, and plug point. The plug points must be taken off and left to dry completely before using them. Every circuit must be tested one by one, after that.
Electricity systems must not be touched or checked, unless by an electrician.
