Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake, who was arrested by the CID over the murder of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, was remanded till May 26 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris on charges of suppressing information on the investigation and conspiring to murder.
He was arrested today by the CID after a third day of questioning.
DIG Senanayake was the Senior DIG of Colombo at the time of the death of the former Sri Lankan rugby player. The investigation on Thajudeen's death was under the direct supervision of Senanayake.
It has been revealed that he instructed police officers under him to describe the death as an accident. Meanwhile, he allegedly told Thajudeen's father not to pursue the matter as it was an accident.
