Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake is likely to be arrested by the CID in connection with Wasim Thajudeen's killing, highly placed Police sources said.
The CID, on Friday, questioned the retired senior Police officer for six hours in connection with the murder.
Senanayake was the Police chief of the Western province at the time of the murder and was a close ally of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Raapaksa.
It was also revealed that Senanayake had informed the family members of Thajudeen to desist from pursuing the case further as it was a "mere accident."
The CID, last month, told the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that they have recorded a statement from the former Crimes OIC of the Narahenpita police that he had been instructed by senior police officers not to conduct investigations on the death of Thajudeen as a murder case but as if it were a traffic accident.
