Several Facebook groups have been engaged in coordinating volunteer relief efforts to people in flood-hit areas around the country.

One such group "Ekamuthu Vemu, Udav Karamu" has been active for some time and another group, "SL Disaster Relief" has been created following the onset of the recent floods.

An active participant of both these groups told Asian Mirror that these groups were creating awareness of people in need of help.

Members of the groups share their knowledge on people in need and also organize relief work through these groups. Essentially, these groups act as platforms to share the news on the requirements at hand and volunteers who are willing to help.

Information on stranded people, food and medical requirements are being shared through the groups.
