The water level in the Kelani River has been on the rise this morning.

Water levels were rising in Kotikawatte and several other areas along the lower river basin.

The navy deployed boats to evacuate people from their homes to safer areas.

More than 25,000 people had been evacuated from Colombo by this morning by the army and the navy.
