Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila yesterday replied to Minister Rajitha Senaratne's recent comments about an individual claiming to be the driver of Gamini Senarath, saying that if the driver is telling the truth, Senarath must be the world weightlifting champion.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Gammanpila recalled that the driver had claimed to have handed over Rs 12,600 million to Senarath.
According to his statement, Senarath had taken the money upstairs.
"Even if all the money is taken in Rs 5000 notes, this is a huge weight" Gammanpla said, adding that Rs 5 million in Rs 5000 notes weighed 1.2 kg. "Then, the Rs 12600 million should weigh 2520 kg, which is over two tons."
If Senarath carried that weight, he should be the world champion in weightlifting by a large margin, Gammanpila said.
