Manoj Abeydeera, a journalist attached to the 'Sunday Divaina' newspaper has resigned following the news report and feature on the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna published last Sunday.

Abeydeera has handed over his resignation letter yesterday, taking responsibility for the article.

However, the journalist had resumed to apologised to the JVP with regard to the article,  sources close to the newspaper said. 

The Sunday Divaina newspaper leveled serious allegations against the JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, claiming that his party leadership was threatened as he was queried on his alleged fraudulent activities.

It was claimed that Dissanayake left for Ireland last month after he was questioned by the party of his finances.

The JVP complained to the Press Complaints Council of Sri Lanka on the matter and threatened to take legal action.
