Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa asked as to why he should bomb himself in 2006 and how he was to do it even if he wanted.

Speaking to the media after attending the PRECIFAC sessions, he commented that a former army commander should not have made such silly comments.

Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka had claimed recently that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa bombed himself at Pittala Junction, Kollupitiya, on December 1, 2006.

Rajapaksa said that the comments by Fonseka were extremely serious since there was an ongoing court case on the matter.

"I was under full security. How could I have plotted my own bombing? Even then, what could have been my motive? Was I going to sue [LTTE leader] Prabhakaran for trying to kill me?" he asked.
